Hoeksche Waard and Lochem coalitions outline housing, transport and sustainability plans

The municipality of Hoeksche Waard (South Holland) presented a new coalition agreement for 2026‑2030 formed by CDA, Lokalen Hoeksche Waard, SGP, D66 and ChristenUnie. The program prioritises expanding housing for local residents, improving island accessibility through upgrades to the N217, new park‑and‑ride sites and better bus links to Rotterdam and Dordrecht, and enhancing welfare services, youth programmes and support for local clubs. A notable provision bans new large events on Sundays to protect the traditional Sunday rest.

In the neighbouring province of Gelderland, the towns of Lochem’s governing parties – GemeenteBelangen, PRO Lochem and VVD – released their 2026‑2030 coalition agreement. Their six‑point agenda focuses on strengthening community resilience, promoting affordable and climate‑neutral housing (2,500 homes between 2030‑2040), boosting local economy and transport, and advancing sustainability goals such as reaching climate neutrality by 2050. Both municipalities aim to combine housing growth with improved mobility and social wellbeing for residents.
