Hof Dannwisch recalls herb salad cheese in Germany after E. coli detection

The Hofkäserei Hof Dannwisch has issued a voluntary recall of its Salatkäse Kräuter soft cheese after routine self‑inspection and official sampling identified STEC/EHEC (shiga‑toxin‑producing Escherichia coli) bacteria. The recall covers batches with best‑by dates 27‑07‑2026 and 31‑07‑2026 sold in the German states of Hamburg, Schleswig‑Holstein and North Rhine‑Westphalia.

Consumers are advised not to eat the product and to return it to the point of purchase for a full refund, even without a receipt. The manufacturer provides a hotline (04126 / 3967642) and email (kaeserei@dannwisch.de) for questions. The bacteria can cause diarrhea, abdominal pain, occasional vomiting and mild fever; vulnerable groups such as infants, the elderly and immunocompromised persons face a higher risk of serious complications, including hemolytic‑uremic syndrome (HUS) that can lead to acute kidney failure.

The recall is part of ongoing food‑safety monitoring in Germany, and the company emphasizes that other production dates and batches are not affected.
