Mountain accidents reported in Austria and Italy

Two separate mountain accidents involving climbers have occurred in the Alps.

In Austria, two mountaineers fell approximately 15 meters into a crevasse on the Hallstätter Glacier at Hoher Dachstein. The incident occurred while the pair was descending a steep ice field. Due to heavy wind, fog, and darkness, helicopter rescue was impossible. Mountain rescue teams from Styria and alpine police had to rappel down to the victims. After a several-hour operation, both seriously injured individuals were rescued and transferred to a medical helicopter around 3:00 AM.

In Italy, a 43-year-old German man died after falling more than 80 meters into a rock crevice near Sexten in the Dolomites. The victim was climbing a via ferrata alone when the fall occurred. Although rescue teams were deployed via helicopter, medical personnel could only confirm his death at the scene.
