President Mahama delivers flood relief to Hohoe residents
President John Dramani Mahama has visited the Hohoe Municipality in Ghana’s Volta Region to provide relief to over 5,000 residents displaced by severe flooding. The disaster occurred following heavy rainfall and the overflow of the River Dayi, which was exacerbated by persistent rains in neighboring Togo.
The Presidency has provided a large consignment of emergency supplies, including rice, sugar, cooking oil, mattresses, blankets, and hygiene kits. To assist with reconstruction, Ibrahim Mahama, owner of Dzata Cement, has pledged 5,000 bags of cement to help rebuild homes destroyed by the water.
During his visit, President Mahama attributed the increasing frequency of such extreme weather phenomena to climate change, noting that unpredictable rainfall patterns are making weather forecasting more difficult. Local authorities, including the Volta Regional Minister and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), are overseeing the distribution of aid to ensure it reaches the most affected households.
