Hoima City MPs denied access to AFCON 2027 stakeholders meeting

Members of Parliament representing Hoima City were denied access to a strategic stakeholders meeting at Hoima City Stadium on Thursday. The meeting, convened by the Minister of State for Education and Sports, Peter Ogwang, was intended to discuss preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027.

Legislators, including Asinansi Nyakato, Ismail Kasule, and Patrick Isingoma Obama, reported significant communication gaps and conflicting information from security personnel regarding the meeting's timing and status. The MPs expressed frustration over being excluded from discussions that directly impact their constituents.

Key issues raised by the representatives include land compensation disputes related to AFCON road projects, the management of the stadium, and the distribution of government-approved soft loans intended to help local hoteliers upgrade their facilities. The lawmakers called for better coordination between the Ministry of Sports, the National Council of Sports, and local leadership to address community concerns.
