Hokkaido Airports partners with Mongolia's NUBIA as Thailand's ARL faces service uncertainty

Hokkaido Airports Co., Ltd., which operates seven airports in Hokkaido, has signed a cooperation agreement with New Ulaanbaatar International Airport LLC (NUBIA), the operator of Chinggis Khaan International Airport in Mongolia. The partnership aims to facilitate human resource exchange and work toward establishing new flight routes connecting Hokkaido and Mongolia. The agreement includes mutual cooperation in training aviation personnel, sharing information on airport operations and tourism, and conducting joint marketing activities.

In Thailand, the Airport Rail Link (ARL) connecting Bangkok to Suvarnabhumi Airport is facing operational uncertainty. The operator, Asia Era One (a subsidiary of CP Group), has notified authorities of its intention to end the ARL service contract on September 30. This decision is driven by chronic financial losses, estimated at approximately 30 million baht per month.

The Thai Ministry of Transport is considering transferring operations to a subsidiary of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) to ensure service continuity after October. Current issues include vehicle maintenance problems and reduced service frequency, leading to significant passenger dissatisfaction.
