Hokkaido Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry to host cybersecurity seminar

The Hokkaido Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry will host a cybersecurity seminar on September 30, 2026, in Sapporo. The event aims to address the increasing frequency of ransomware attacks targeting small and medium-sized enterprises, which can lead to information leaks and business interruptions.

The seminar will feature case studies from companies that have experienced cyberattacks and will introduce the “Security Control System (SCS) evaluation system” promoted by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry to strengthen supply chains.

In parallel, industry discussions emphasize the shift toward “cyber resilience.” Experts note that while many companies implement individual security measures like backups and EDR, they often lack a cohesive process to ensure rapid business recovery following an incident. Effective resilience requires moving beyond mere prevention to focus on localized damage control and organized recovery procedures to prevent factory shutdowns and shipping delays.
