Hokkaido high schools stage volleyball and karate championships

From June 9–12 2026, the Hokkaido High School Volleyball Tournament was held in Hakodate. The host school's women's team won its opening matches 2‑0, advanced to the round of 16, and was ultimately defeated in a full five‑set final against last year’s champion, Sapporo Ōtani High School.

Between June 10–12 2026, the 51st Hokkaido High School Karate Championship, also serving as the 53rd National Karate Championship qualifiers, took place at the Kuribayashi Arena in Muroran. In kata, the women's individual title went to Rinkō Hasegawa (Sapporo Kita), while the men's title was claimed by Iwabuki Nao (Sapporo Shiroishi). In kumite, women's winners included Kaoru Kobayashi (Science University) and men’s winners included Hayato Tsuji (Sapporo Kei‑sei). Team titles were captured by Hokkaido Science University (women) and Hokkaido Ene‑tō South (men).
