Hokkaido reports bountiful vegetable harvest due to favorable weather

Favorable weather conditions have led to a bountiful harvest of various vegetables in Hokkaido, particularly in areas near Sapporo. At a direct sales market in Ebetsu, customers are finding high-quality produce at affordable prices.

Key items reported as being in high supply and good quality include onions, broccoli, cabbage, and pumpkins. Specifically, onions are being sold in sets of three for 250 yen, and large broccoli heads are priced at 180 yen. Producers note that the lack of extreme heat this year has contributed to better yields and improved quality, such as increased sweetness in onions and better texture in broccoli.

Other seasonal items available include corn, young ginger, and various types of pumpkin. Farmers, such as Kazuyuki Morita from Hokushin Farm, indicated that the current growing conditions and fertilizer use have resulted in larger, high-quality crops, particularly for varieties like the Kuritennka pumpkin.
