Hokuriku Shinkansen extension triggers groundwater concerns in Kyoto

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, along with the Japan Railway Construction, Transport and Technology Agency, held a briefing session in Kyoto City for local municipalities regarding the extension of the Hokuriku Shinkansen from Tsuruga to Shin-Osaka.

The meeting addressed local concerns, specifically focusing on simulations regarding the impact of underground tunnel construction on groundwater levels. This session follows a decision by the ruling party's development committee in July to proceed with the ‘Katsuragawa plan,’ which involves constructing a station near JR Katsuragawa Station in Kyoto City as part of the Obama-Kyoto route.

Government officials stated their intention to address local anxieties carefully and steadily as they move forward with the project development.
