Holafly launches Travel Dupe Index with low‑crowd alternatives
Holafly has released its first Travel Dupe Index, a ranking of international destinations that offer a similar visual and cultural experience to iconic, over‑touristed spots while attracting far fewer visitors. The index compares factors such as visual similarity, accommodation cost, tourism pressure, accessibility and social momentum.
Top alternatives highlighted include Ghent, Belgium for Venice; Banff, Canada for Aspen; Jeonju, South Korea for Kyoto; and Budva, Montenegro for Ibiza. Additional pairings feature Cascais for Saint‑Tropez, Lake Ohrid in North Macedonia for Lake Como, Las Terrenas in the Dominican Republic for Tulum, among others. The study suggests travelers could save up to 83 % on lodging by choosing these lower‑crowd locations.
The trend reflects a growing desire among tourists to avoid long queues, inflated prices and crowded environments, opting instead for comparable experiences in less‑visited countries.
