Holborn and St Pancras by-election set following Keir Starmer resignation

A by-election has been scheduled for the Holborn and St Pancras constituency on Thursday, October 8, 2026. The vote follows the resignation of former Prime Minister Keir Starmer from Parliament in September.

The election serves as a significant political test for Andy Burnham, who succeeded Starmer as Prime Minister. The Labour Party has selected Camden Council leader Sagal Abdi-Wali as its candidate and remains the favorite to retain the seat. Other notable candidates include Zack Polanski for the Green Party and George Galloway for the Workers Party. A total of 15 candidates are set to appear on the ballot.

Observers have characterized the political transition and Starmer's departure as a moment of national instability, drawing comparisons to historical shifts in British global influence.
