Holden Hurricane Concept: The 1969 experimental supercar

In 1969, the Australian brand Holden, a subsidiary of General Motors, introduced the Hurricane Concept. Designed by Ken Genest under the direction of Don DaHarsh, the prototype served as a technological laboratory to test advancements in design, materials, electronics, and technical solutions rather than as a production-ready supercar.

The vehicle featured a radical wedge-shaped silhouette, standing only 99 cm tall. Its futuristic proportions and streamlined surfaces are noted for potentially influencing iconic later models such as the Lancia Stratos Zero, the Ferrari 512 S Berlinetta Speciale, and the Maserati Boomerang. One of its most distinctive features was an unconventional access system that replaced traditional doors with a large transparent canopy.
