Holger Bonin proposes AMS support for employed job seekers

Holger Bonin, head of the Institute for Advanced Studies (IHS), has proposed that the Austrian Public Employment Service (AMS) should expand its scope to actively support currently employed individuals in finding new job opportunities.

Bonin argues that due to demographic shifts and the retirement of baby boomers, the shrinking workforce necessitates higher productivity. He suggests that the AMS should send annual newsletters to employees highlighting suitable job options to ensure people are placed in roles where their skills are most effectively utilized.

According to Bonin, providing information about better career prospects is a state responsibility, as many workers may underestimate their market value. He believes that facilitating better job matching will increase competition for labor and drive economic efficiency by moving workers from less optimal positions into better-suited roles.
