Holger Rune withdraws from US Open due to injury
Former world number four Holger Rune has withdrawn from the US Open as he continues to recover from a serious left Achilles tendon injury. The 23-year-old Dane has not competed in an official match since October.
Rune recently spent a week of training in Murcia, Spain, alongside Carlos Alcaraz to prepare for his return to professional tennis. Despite expressing satisfaction with his progress and level, Rune and his team decided that competing in a Grand Slam would be too high a risk for his first tournament back.
Organizers confirmed that Argentina’s Facundo Diaz Acosta will take Rune’s place in the main draw for the tournament, which begins on August 30 in New York.
