Holger Rune secures first ATP victory since Achilles injury in Basel
Holger Rune has achieved his first individual victory on the ATP Tour since returning from a major Achilles tendon injury. Competing at the ATP 500 Swiss Indoors in Basel, the 23-year-old Dane defeated France's Quentin Halys in a grueling three-set match, winning 6-4, 6-7(2), 7-6(5).
The victory marks a significant milestone for Rune, who had been sidelined for 373 days following a tendon rupture in Stockholm in October 2025. While he previously secured wins during Davis Cup play, this win represents his successful return to the main professional circuit.
Other notable results from the opening day in Basel include Casper Ruud defeating local player Dominik Stricker in three sets, and Nuno Borges advancing after a straight-sets win over Mika Brunold. Rune is set to face the winner of the match between Hubert Hurkacz and Zizou Bergs in the second round.
