Holger Rune targets September return following Achilles injury
Danish tennis player Holger Rune is entering the final stages of recovery from a left Achilles tendon rupture sustained in October 2025. While his participation in the upcoming US Open remains uncertain, Rune has actively denied social media rumors claiming he has already withdrawn from the tournament.
In a recent interview on the Served podcast with Andy Roddick, Rune stated that his rehabilitation is transitioning from medical recovery to match-specific preparation. He noted that while he is “feeling great,” he must still build the stamina required to compete over multiple consecutive days. His training currently involves increasing the duration of on-court sessions, moving from single sets toward full three-set simulations.
His mother and representative, Aneke Rune, indicated that while the US Open is a possibility, the team is monitoring his progress daily. A more definitive return target may be the Asian swing or the Davis Cup in September. Despite his current ATP ranking of No. 99, Rune is expected to utilize a protected ranking of approximately No. 10 upon his return to professional competition.
