Holiday closures expected across US regions for Columbus Day
Various businesses, government offices, and public services across different regions of the United States will observe closures on Monday, October 12, for Columbus Day, which is also recognized by many as Indigenous Peoples' Day.
In Georgia, specifically the Columbus area, federal and state offices including Social Security, courts, and driver’s license offices will be closed. Local school districts, such as Muscogee County, have scheduled breaks, while the Russell County School District has designated the day as a remote eLearning day. Trash and recycling services in Columbus will not be collected on Monday, with routes resuming Wednesday.
In the Hudson Valley region of New York, including Dutchess, Orange, and Ulster Counties, public schools will be closed. The United States Postal Service will not provide regular mail delivery or retail services. While most banks and government offices are closed, the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will remain open for regular trading. Public transit services in Dutchess and Ulster Counties will not operate, though Metro-North trains will maintain a regular weekday schedule.
