Holland America Line and Aurora Expeditions announce Northern Lights cruises

Travel companies are launching Arctic voyages to capitalize on a period of heightened solar activity that is producing unusually vivid aurora displays. Holland America Line will operate Arctic Journey & Northern Lights sailings aboard the Rotterdam and Nieuw Statendam in October and November 2026, with extended stays in Norway’s Tromsø and Alta allowing up to 36 hours of darkness for aurora viewing.

Aurora Expeditions is offering several itineraries, including a 17‑day Arctic Golden Autumn & Northern Lights trip from Reykjavik to Tromsø (Aug 18–Sept 3), a Northern Lights Explorer sailing between Tromsø and Reykjavik (Sept 2–19 and Aug 25–Sept 9 2027), and an 11‑day East Greenland voyage (Sept 8–18 2027) that traverses remote fjords and icebergs. All voyages are designed to maximize guests’ chances of witnessing the Aurora Borealis in some of the world’s most pristine polar skies.
