Hollywood stars from the 1980s transition to new careers

Several prominent actors from the 1980s and 1990s have transitioned away from major Hollywood careers to pursue alternative lifestyles, including real estate and teaching.

Kelly McGillis, known for her roles in Top Gun and Witness, shifted her focus toward real estate and hospitality. She successfully managed property investments in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and operated a bar and grill in Key West, Florida, until 2017. She currently resides in North Carolina and teaches acting.

Kristy McNichol, an Emmy-winning actress recognized for her work in Family and the Golden Girls spinoff Empty Nest, left the entertainment industry to become a teacher at a private acting school. She previously cited her struggle with manic depression as the reason for her departure from Empty Nest in 1992.
