Holy Association of Clergy of Greece denies cassock removal rumors
The Holy Association of Clergy of Greece (ISKE) has issued a formal denial regarding rumors that it sent a letter to the Permanent Holy Synod of the Church of Greece requesting that clergy remove or abandon their priestly cassocks.
In a statement, the Association described the information as “absolutely false, unsubstantiated, and malicious.” It emphasized that the priestly cassock is an inseparable characteristic of the clerical identity and a sign of respect for sacred tradition. The ISKE clarified that it never drafted, sent, or adopted any such position.
The Association warned that the spread of unverified claims harms ecclesiastical unity, scandalizes the faithful, and injustices those serving the Church. It urged those circulating the information to exercise responsibility and verify facts through official sources.
