Vatican Dicasteries release document marking 60 years of interreligious dialogue

To mark the 60th anniversary of the conciliar Declaration ‘Nostra aetate’, three Vatican Dicasteries have published a joint document titled ‘A Journey of Hope’. The Note, approved by Pope Leo XIV, serves to renew the Church’s commitment to interreligious dialogue, religious freedom, and universal fraternity.

The document, prepared by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity, and the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue, assesses the progress made since the original 1965 declaration. It calls for an end to fundamentalism and rejects the use of religion to justify violence, terrorism, or discrimination based on race, color, social condition, or faith.

Reflecting on a world described as both interconnected and fragmented, the Note encourages believers to move away from logics of defense or conquest and instead build coexistence. It emphasizes that the Church reproves any form of persecution as being contrary to the will of Christ.
