Żukowo commemorates 800th anniversary of Norbertine Sisters' martyrdom

On October 11, 2026, ceremonies were held in Żukowo to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the martyrdom of the Norbertine Sisters of Żukowo, who died at the hands of the Prussians in 1226.

The event included a Mass led by Bishop Wiesław Szlachetka and the laying of wreaths at the chapel of St. John Nepomucene. Mayor Mariola Zmudzińska emphasized the importance of preserving this local heritage for future generations. The commemorations also featured a popular science presentation regarding the sisters' legacy, including a display of an 18th-century golden cap reconstructed by artist Anna Miszczak, alongside the original artifact from the Maria Znamierowska-Prüfferowa Ethnographic Museum in Toruń.

Additionally, various local parishes across the region released liturgical schedules and mass intentions for the week of October 11–18, 2026, noting religious observances such as the Month of the Rosary and Papal Day collections for student scholarships.
