Home Assistant releases 2026.10 update with new map and AI features
Home Assistant has released version 2026.10, introducing several significant functional updates. A major highlight is the completely rebuilt map interface, which now utilizes OpenStreetMap vector tiles. This change allows for sharper rendering at all zoom levels and includes a dedicated dark mode. The new map system also improves visibility for users and devices, displaying profile photos directly on the map and grouping multiple people in the same location into a single bubble.
Other key improvements include simplified automation triggers and easier integration of artificial intelligence via the Model Context Protocol (MCP). The user profile page has been reorganized for better navigation, now allowing users to add profile photos.
Additionally, Nabu Casa is rebranding its paid service, Home Assistant Cloud, to ‘Home Assistant Link’ to better differentiate it from major manufacturers' cloud services. To improve remote access, Nabu Casa has migrated its servers to proprietary hardware and implemented a latency check that automatically selects the best connection during startup.
