Home Bargains washing‑machine cleaner and door‑ajar habit curb mould and odors
A low‑cost washing‑machine cleaner sold by Home Bargains, Elbow Grease Lemon Fresh, was tested and found to remove detergent residue, limescale and mold from the detergent drawer and door seal in a single hot‑wash cycle. The reviewer soaked the drawer in the product, wiped the seal, ran an empty 60 °C wash and reported a fresh scent and cleaner machine components.
A separate tip recommends leaving the washing‑machine door slightly open after each cycle to allow residual moisture to evaporate. This simple ventilation step prevents the damp environment that encourages mould and mildew, especially in front‑loading machines, and can also extend the appliance’s lifespan.
Both pieces of advice aim to improve hygiene, eliminate musty smells and protect the machine’s rubber seals.
