Home Battery Storage Demand Spurs Installer Strategies, New Testing Tool

Rising consumer interest in home battery storage, driven by rebates and the need for backup power, is prompting solar installers to shift their sales approach. Installers are focusing on clear value communication, simplifying proposals, and offering financing that highlights long‑term savings, energy independence and outage protection.

In the United States, DIY solar expert Will Prowse built an 18‑kilowatt battery cycler to test large lithium batteries off‑grid. He demonstrated the machine’s ability to charge and discharge a 32 kWh, 600‑pound battery continuously, saying, "This thing can charge and discharge a battery with 18,000 watts continuously" and "It can store 32 kWh. It is massive." The setup uses a Sol‑Ark 60 kW inverter and can operate without industrial‑grade power, allowing independent performance testing that could help consumers compare products and avoid disappointment after installation.
