Global challenges in elderly care and caregiver support

As populations age globally, various regions are facing distinct challenges regarding elderly care, caregiver strain, and the logistics of home-based support.

In Australia, research from National Seniors Australia indicates that older unpaid carers are facing significant health and retirement pressures. The report highlights that many carers lack access to respite care, with 58 per cent reporting that caregiving has negatively impacted their lives, affecting both mental and physical health.

In India, a shifting demographic landscape is projected to increase the population aged 60 and above to 23 crore by 2036. This trend is challenging traditional family-based care models as families become smaller and mobility increases among younger generations.

In the United Kingdom, families are encountering financial difficulties regarding inherited retirement flats. Due to high service charges and a limited buyer pool, some properties are being resold for significantly less than their original purchase price, often remaining on the market for extended periods.

In the United States, the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects rapid growth in the employment of home health and personal care aides. Meanwhile, in Arizona, families navigating non-medical home care must navigate specific state disclosure laws, as non-medical agencies are not required to be licensed by the Department of Health Services.
