Home care viewed as long-term aging strategy, survey finds

A 2026 survey commissioned by A Place for Mom reveals that families increasingly view home care as a long-term strategy for aging in place rather than a temporary service. According to the report, which surveyed 708 family caregivers, 62% of those searching for home care expected it to become a permanent or long-term solution, while only 19% viewed it as temporary.

The data suggests that families prefer modifying existing home care arrangements to accommodate evolving needs rather than transitioning to different care settings. Additionally, the study found that professional home care tends to reshape rather than reduce family caregiving responsibilities. While professional caregivers handle daily tasks, 54% of long-term users reported that family involvement remained steady, with family members shifting their focus toward care coordination and monitoring.
