Home cleaning tips for overlooked household areas

Maintaining a clean home involves addressing often-overlooked areas where dust, dirt, and microbes accumulate. Common household items such as door handles, light switches, remote controls, and faucets frequently harbor microorganisms due to regular contact.

In kitchens and bathrooms, attention should be paid to areas around taps, the inside of trash cans, filters, ventilation openings, and spaces behind or under furniture. Moisture-prone areas, including windows, pipes, and walls, require specific care to prevent mold growth. To combat mold, it is essential to resolve moisture issues and ensure surfaces are thoroughly dried.

For stubborn grime in window tracks, a method involving baking soda and plastic wrap can be effective. This process involves applying a thick paste of baking soda and water to the tracks, covering them with plastic wrap for 30 minutes to two hours to soften the dirt, and then scrubbing with a brush. For general cleaning, water and appropriate detergents are typically sufficient, though disinfection may be necessary during illnesses or high-risk periods.
