Home Design Trends: Color Drenching and Light Layering Gain Popularity
The Color Drenching trend calls for a single hue applied to virtually every surface in a room—walls, ceiling, doors, trim, and even furniture. By using varied finishes such as matte, semi‑matte or glossy within the same shade, designers create depth and a luxurious, cohesive look without major renovations. The approach revives a Victorian‑era technique and has become popular for both small and large spaces.
At the same time, the light‑layering trend moves away from a single, dominant ceiling fixture. Instead, multiple smaller light sources—table lamps, floor lamps, wall sconces, LED strips and candles—are combined to soften shadows, highlight textures and add intimacy. This layered lighting is praised for giving rooms a more personal, atmospheric feel while still allowing functional illumination where needed.
