Home heating and flooring optimization for cold climates

To maintain comfort and energy efficiency during cold weather, homeowners can implement several maintenance and design strategies.

Regarding flooring, materials such as tiles or stone are highly effective when paired with radiant floor heating, as they conduct heat well and are durable for high-traffic areas like kitchens and bathrooms. Solid or engineered wood also provides natural warmth to living spaces.

For existing heating systems, bleeding radiators is a critical maintenance step. Air trapped inside radiator circuits can prevent hot water from circulating properly, leading to uneven heating and increased energy consumption. Using a bleeding key or screwdriver to release trapped air ensures optimal pressure and more efficient heat distribution. Additionally, homeowners should ensure boiler pressure remains between 1 and 1.5 bars to maintain system performance.
