Home insulation strategies to reduce heat loss in Ireland and the UK

In Ireland, older properties with solid or hollow block walls are particularly susceptible, with the SEAI noting that homes can lose approximately 20–30% of their heat through poorly insulated external walls.

External wall insulation, often referred to as ‘the wrap’, involves fixing insulating material to the outside of the building before applying a protective render. This method provides continuous coverage and improves thermal continuity without reducing internal floor space.
