Home maintenance tips for extractor hoods and air conditioning

Regular maintenance of household appliances, such as kitchen extractor hoods and air conditioning units, can improve energy efficiency and indoor air quality.

Accumulated grease in extractor hood filters obstructs airflow, forcing the motor to work harder and increasing electricity consumption. Beyond higher utility bills, dirty filters can lead to moisture buildup, mold growth, and increased fire risks due to the flammable nature of grease. Cleaning filters in a dishwasher or with hot water and degreaser at least once a month is recommended.

Similarly, air conditioning units can spread dust, pet hair, and bacteria if filters and grilles are not cleaned. Using a solution of white vinegar and warm water can help disinfect components and neutralize musty odors. Regular cleaning, ideally every two to three weeks during peak usage, is particularly beneficial for individuals with respiratory allergies.
