Home maintenance tips for managing winter humidity and laundry

Managing indoor moisture and laundry during cold, wet weather can be achieved through specific home maintenance habits and equipment. Experts suggest that persistent condensation on windows is a primary indicator of excess humidity, which can be addressed using dehumidifiers to prevent moisture buildup caused by activities like cooking, showering, and indoor laundry drying.

To assist with winter laundry, cleaning expert Gemma Bray recommends running an extra spin cycle on washing machines to remove more moisture before drying. For outdoor drying, she suggests checking if the ground is damp; if the pavement is dry, clothes can likely be dried outside even in winter. Additionally, using heated airers is noted as an efficient way to speed up the drying process indoors without relying solely on energy-intensive tumble dryers.
