Home maintenance tips for ventilation and heat reduction
Various domestic techniques can be used to improve home environments, specifically regarding air quality and temperature control.
Cross ventilation involves opening windows or doors on opposite sides of a house to create an air current. This method is more effective than opening a single window, as it allows for a faster exchange of air and can significantly reduce humidity and mold growth. In winter, short bursts of intense ventilation are often more effective than leaving a single window slightly open for long periods.
For heat management, using aluminum foil on windows can serve as a temporary, low-cost emergency measure during heatwaves. The reflective surface can deflect solar radiation, helping to reduce heat gain in rooms that receive direct sunlight for extended periods. While useful for reducing brightness and temperature, it is considered a temporary solution rather than a permanent substitute for proper solar protection.
