Home maintenance tips for washing machines and floors
Effective household maintenance relies on proper cleaning techniques for appliances and surfaces. For washing machines, many modern models include a dedicated hygiene program, often labeled as ‘Drum Clean’, ‘Tub Clean’, or ‘Eco Drum Clean’. This cycle uses high temperatures and specific rotation rhythms to remove detergent residue, limescale, and mold from hard-to-reach areas. To use it correctly, the drum must be empty, and standard detergents should generally be avoided unless specified by the manufacturer. Leaving the door and detergent drawer open after the cycle helps prevent moisture buildup and odors.
Regarding floor maintenance, common mistakes can lead to spreading dirt rather than removing it. Experts suggest that floors should always be vacuumed or swept before mopping to prevent dust, hair, and debris from being redistributed by a wet mop. Additionally, using the same bucket of water for an entire cleaning session can result in spreading grime across different rooms. It is recommended to change the water once it becomes visibly dirty and to ensure the mop itself is thoroughly cleaned and dried after each use to prevent the transfer of grease and dust.
