Home maintenance tips for wool carpets and bed linens
Guidelines for maintaining household textiles suggest using gentle methods for wool carpets and regular routines for bed linens to ensure hygiene and longevity.
For wool carpets, regular vacuuming once or twice a week is recommended, ideally in the direction of the pile. To refresh the material and remove odors naturally, baking soda can be sprinkled over the surface, left for several hours or overnight, and then vacuumed thoroughly. White vinegar diluted in cold or lukewarm water can also be used to revive colors and neutralize odors, provided it is applied lightly with a cloth or soft brush.
Regarding bed linens, changing sheets and pillowcases weekly is a standard recommendation, especially for those with dust mite allergies. While washing at 60 °C is effective for killing mites, the frequency of changes should be adapted to individual needs, such as perspiration levels, the presence of pets, or illness. The goal is to limit exposure to dead skin cells, sebum, and moisture rather than achieving total sterility.
