Home video surveillance effectiveness discussed by experts

Experts and consumer advocates are clarifying the role of video surveillance and smart doorbells in home security. While many homeowners use these tools to gain a sense of control and receive real-time alerts, authorities emphasize that cameras are not a standalone solution for preventing burglaries.

Julia Christiani of the Police Criminal Prevention office stated that while video monitoring does not prevent break-ins, it can serve as a deterrent when paired with alarm systems and can provide crucial evidence for investigations. Similarly, Maximilian Heitkämper from the Rheinland-Pfalz Consumer Advice Center noted that cameras assist in identifying perpetrators but offer no physical protection against entry.

For a comprehensive security strategy, experts suggest integrating video technology with mechanical safeguards, adequate lighting, and alarm systems.
