Homematic IP expands energy management via EEBUS

Homematic IP has expanded the energy management capabilities of its Home Control Unit through a new EEBUS plugin. The update introduces two primary functions: Limitation of Power Consumption (LPC) and Limitation of Power Production (LPP).

LPC allows the unit to reduce the power consumption of connected devices, while LPP limits the feed-in power of energy generation systems. These features are designed to help users comply with German energy regulations, specifically § 14a EnWG and § 9 EEG, which involve controllable consumers like heat pumps and wallboxes, as well as photovoltaic systems.

Through the Homematic IP app, users can prioritize specific devices. In the event of power limitations, the Home Control Unit will distribute available power based on these user-defined preferences. Compatible EEBUS devices can be integrated via software without the need for additional relay hardware.

These new energy management functions will remain free of charge until December 31, 2027. While Homematic IP intends for these features to eventually become part of a paid Home Energy Management System, the company stated there will be no automatic transition to a paid model; users must choose to opt-in at a later date.
