Homeowners warned of increased mold risks during seasonal transitions

Experts are warning homeowners about the increased risk of mold growth during the transition into colder months. Mold can threaten both property integrity and human health, potentially causing respiratory issues.

To prevent growth, specialists recommend maintaining consistent indoor temperatures and ensuring proper ventilation. Keeping humidity levels between 30 per cent and 50 per cent, potentially through the use of a dehumidifier, is advised to manage moisture.

Seasonal factors such as falling leaves and decaying organic matter can increase outdoor spore levels, which may enter homes through windows, doors, or via clothing and pets. Additionally, clogged gutters and storm-related damage to roofs or foundations can create moisture entry points that facilitate mold development.
