Homeownership costs reveal significant knowledge gap for buyers

A significant knowledge gap exists regarding the true costs of homeownership. Data from the Pennsylvania Association of Realtors and American Home Shield indicates that 46% of first-time buyers did not understand the full financial implications of owning a home before purchase, while 56% lacked a dedicated repair budget.

Financial experts suggest homeowners should budget between 1% and 4% of their home's value annually for maintenance. For a $400,000 property, this equates to an annual cost of $4,000 to $16,000. Currently, 69% of homeowners report having unfinished maintenance tasks, with half estimating their deferred maintenance backlog could cost $5,000 or more to resolve.

This gap is often attributed to the complexity of modern home systems and a lack of guidance provided during the transaction process. In response to these challenges, SolidPoint Connect was founded by Chad Corbett to help homeowners better understand and manage their property systems.
