Homeplus to reopen 67 stores in Seoul after securing 2 trillion‑won emergency loan

The Seoul Bankruptcy Court approved a DIP (Debtor-in-Possession) loan of about 2 trillion won for Homeplus, provided by Meritz Financial Group. The funding allows the retailer to resume operations at 67 stores that have been temporarily closed, with a soft opening slated for September 7 and a full reopening on September 13.

While the loan restores operating cash and enables Homeplus to finalize agreements with suppliers and delivery firms, several key tenants are withdrawing. Olive Young, Daiso, Uniqlo and other brands have announced store closures within Homeplus locations, prompting concerns about the long‑term viability of the reopened outlets. The restructuring plan must be approved by September 4; failure to do so could trigger another termination of the recovery process.
