Homes England funds 350‑home Riverside Sunderland regeneration

Homes England has committed £27.7 million from its Brownfield Infrastructure Land Fund to unlock the Sheepfolds neighbourhood in Sunderland. The investment will deliver roads, utilities, public‑realm works and active‑travel routes needed to build more than 350 new homes as part of the wider Riverside Sunderland regeneration scheme, which aims to create over 1,000 homes across the city centre.

The funding builds on a prior £10 million contribution from North East Mayor Kim McGuinness and follows the opening of the Keel Crossing pedestrian bridge that links the site to the city centre. Tom Bridges, executive regional director for Homes England in the North East, said the partnership with the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority and Sunderland City Council “continues to deliver real results for local people”. Mayor McGuinness added that the project “shows everyone deserves a safe, affordable home”.
