Homes NSW reveals undisclosed brokerage payments for homeless clients

The NSW Government is utilizing a non-advertised financial assistance program called ‘brokerage’ to help homeless individuals transition into permanent housing or relocate. According to housing advocates, eligible clients can receive up to $10,000 to cover costs such as vehicle repairs, airfare, or purchasing a caravan to facilitate their move.

While advocates note that the lack of public information prevents many from accessing these funds, a spokesperson for Homes NSW stated that brokerage is not a standard grant but is instead tailored to individual support plans for those in temporary accommodation.

This revelation comes as Wagga Wagga faces a shortage of hotel rooms due to the government’s ongoing use of temporary accommodation for homeless residents. The department has declined to disclose the total expenditure or the number of individuals placed in local hotels and motels.
