Homestream app launches to sync college sports radio with live TV

Homestream is launching a new mobile application this fall designed to synchronize local college sports radio broadcasts with live national or regional television feeds. The service allows fans to point their smartphone at a television screen, after which the app recognizes the game action and automatically aligns the radio audio with the video.

Duke, Auburn, and Georgia Tech are the first universities to implement the service. For football, the technology will be available starting September 5, while men’s college basketball broadcasts will debut in November. The rollout is facilitated through agreements with the schools’ multimedia rights partners: Learfield for Duke, Playfly Sports for Auburn, and Legends for Georgia Tech.

Homestream is a subscription-based service available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Pricing options include $79.99 for a full football or basketball season, approximately $3 to $6 per game, or a combined football and basketball package for $129.99. The company noted that the technology underwent successful testing with fans during the previous college basketball season.
