Homicide investigations underway in Costa Rica and Guatemala

Authorities in Costa Rica are investigating a double homicide on a remote road near Nosara, Guanacaste. Two men, identified as 26‑year‑old Zúñiga and 28‑year‑old Barquero, both from Guápiles, were shot multiple times by armed assailants and died at the scene. Preliminary information links one victim to a criminal cell led by Alejandro Arias Monge, alias “Diablo”, and suggests the attack may be a drug‑related retaliation.

In Guatemala, police are probing a triple murder in Olintepege, Quetzaltenango. The victims – Aracely Macario, her mother Yadira Macario, and Arnulfo Macario – were shot while gathered in a patio. Investigators focus on Yadira’s husband, who was present at the time of the attack and fled afterward. The suspect is alleged to have a history of violence and may have been attempting to migrate irregularly to the United States. Both incidents are being treated as organized‑crime related homicides.
