Honaz to open Exchange House museum for 1924 migrants
The Honaz Municipality in Denizli has completed the construction of the ‘Mübadele Evi’ (Exchange House), a facility dedicated to preserving the memories of those who migrated from Greece to Turkey in 1924. The project aims to serve as both a museum and a social hub for the community.
Honaz Mayor Yüksel Kepenek stated that the facility will display photographs, personal belongings, and materials brought by migrants from regions such as Thessaloniki. Rather than a restoration of an old building, the structure was built from scratch using a community-driven ‘imece’ approach, where local residents volunteered their labor to reflect the architectural spirit of the era.
In addition to its museum functions, the house will include a cafe and spaces for cultural activities, acting as a social meeting point for local residents.
