Honbetsu hosts summer event organized by university interns

In Honbetsu, Hokkaido, three university students participating in a regional revitalization internship have organized a summer event titled ‘Honbetsu Natsuyasumi Shoka-kai’. Scheduled for August 15, 2026, at the roadside station ‘Stella Honbetsu’, the event aims to foster local affection and address population decline by creating memorable experiences for the younger generation.

The day-long program includes activities such as making lanterns, watermelon splitting, and playing Molkky. In the evening, participants will light the handmade lanterns to create a night view. The project was developed by the interns following an analysis of town surveys regarding local challenges and the importance of building community ties.
