Honda and Aston Martin manage technical and contract goals

Honda and Aston Martin are navigating technical and contractual complexities as the 2026 Formula 1 season approaches. Honda's Shintaro Orihara, Chief Engineer, noted that while drivability has improved following recent races in Monza and Madrid, the team is now focusing on energy management and engine tuning ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku.

Simultaneously, discussions regarding Fernando Alonso's future are surfacing. While both Honda and Aston Martin owner Lawrence Stroll reportedly desire to retain the Spanish driver, financial terms remain a hurdle. Reports suggest Alonso may seek approximately 40 million euros per season for a contract extension through 2027, with Stroll potentially looking to Honda to cover the salary. Koji Watanabe, President of Honda Racing Corporation, has publicly expressed his desire for Alonso to remain, citing his vital experience in project development.
