Honda and Mitsubishi to develop new pickup truck based on Triton

Honda and Mitsubishi Motors have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop a new Honda pickup truck based on the Mitsubishi Triton. This marks the first direct product collaboration between the two automakers.

The new model is scheduled to go on sale in the ASEAN region in 2028. By utilizing the Triton's existing ladder-frame platform, Honda aims to quickly and efficiently expand its product lineup in markets where it currently lacks a pickup truck offering.

For Mitsubishi, the partnership is expected to increase production volumes and improve capacity utilization at its manufacturing plant in Laem Chabang, Thailand. This agreement follows a broader strategic partnership framework established in August 2024 involving Honda, Mitsubishi, and Nissan to explore vehicle complementarity and regional market needs.
